Alan English to step down as editor of Sunday Independent after five years

The Limerick native said his time at the newspaper was a great privilege but he is stepping down for personal reasons.

Mr English joined Mediahuis Ireland in March 2020 and has been an integral newsroom leader since.

Staff were told today that he will remain in-situ until the edition of April 26 and has offered to stay until the end of May to facilitate a recruitment process if necessary.

Mr English said: “I will be forever grateful for the opportunity to edit the Sunday Independent. It has been a fantastic experience and a great privilege.

“I’m stepping down for personal reasons – from the beginning I felt that five years would be a good stint and that time has passed incredibly quickly.

“I’ve been hugely fortunate to work with so many talented people in the Sunday Independent team and the wider newsroom, along with the paper’s many excellent contributors.
