Abi Lyle: Paris Olympic Games selection ‘beyond wildest dreams’ for woman who overcame Creswell abuse
Abi Lyle (39), from Bangor, will be Ireland’s sole representative in the individual dressage event when the Paris Games begin at the end of July.
Her former partner Jonathan Creswell (36) was found dead at his home in April, having taken his own life a day after his trial for the 2020 murder of showjumper Katie Simpson got underway.
Ms Lyle, now based in Gloucestershire, had been in a nine-month relationship with Creswell 15 years ago.
He was jailed for six months in 2010 after pleading guilty to assaulting her.
Ms Simpson had died in hospital a week after an incident in Gortnessy Meadows, Lettershandoney, Co Londonderry, on August 3, 2020.
Speaking of her Olympic Games 2024 selection, at which she will ride her 13-year old gelding Giraldo (Arty), Ms Lyle told Horse & Hound magazine: “When I moved to England in 2009, my ultimate goal was to do a PSG [Prix St Georges].
