Minister of State Jerry Buttimer said comments made by the ESB’s chief executive Paddy Hayes were “inappropriate”, while Labour Ivana Bacik said they were “completely unacceptable”.

Minister Buttimer, who was gave a statement during a Dáil session on Storm Éowyn today, said Paddy Hayes should reflect on the remarks he made.

“Just in regard to Chief Executive of the ESB, I think his remarks were inappropriate at the time when people were looking for leadership from him, as the EO of ESB and I think that he should reflect on what he did say,” Minister Buttimer told the Dáil.

Speaking on RTÉ Radio’s Today with Claire Byrne, Mr Hayes said it was “likely that those charges which are allowed there will find their way back into the overall cost of our distribution network.”
