A man is in a critical condition in hospital following a suspected one punch attack outside a Dublin pub.

Emergency services were alerted to the scene in Dublin 15 at around 11pm last night after receiving reports of an assault at the entrance to the car park of the Clonsilla Inn on the Clonsilla Road.

A man, aged in his 40s, was discovered with serious head injuries and was rushed to Connolly Hospital in Blanchardstown where he remains in a critical condition.

Gardaí have been canvassing witnesses to the assault and are also harvesting CCTV footage from the area.

At this stage investigators suspect that the victim was struck with a single punch before falling and hitting his head off of the ground.

One source said: “There is no suggestion of weapons or anything of the sort being used, and early indications are that this was a one-punch assault which has resulted in the victim suffering serious injuries”.
