Civil servants in two departments ordered to increase number of days in the office immediately

The trade union Fórsa said workers at the Department of Finance and the Department of Social Protection have been told to attend the office at least one extra day per week.

The move follows a commitment in the new Programme for Government to a review of remote and blended work policies across the public service.

A Fórsa spokesperson said it has instructed its members to continue their current hybrid working arrangements.

He said it issued an instruction last night after directives were issued to staff by the departments to increase their office workdays.

Fórsa deputy general secretary Éamonn Donnelly said preparation for a protective ballot for industrial action, should any members be threatened with disciplinary action for complying with the union instruction is underway.
