Gardaí have issued a witness appeal after a man in his 20s was critically injured following an early morning single-vehicle crash in Monaghan. (Niall Carson/PA).

Two men in their twenties have died following a single car crash in Co Carlow in the early hours of Friday morning.

The incident took place on the N80 in Leagh, Rathow in Carlow at around 1.15 am. Two occupants of the car, the driver and a passenger, were pronounced dead at the scene.

Two other passengers in the car, a man and a woman both aged in their 20s, were taken to St Luke’s General Hospital in Kilkenny with serious but non-life threatening injuries.

The N80 at Leagh is closed and will remain closed for a number areas while garda forensic colliison investigators examine the scene. Local diversions are in place.

Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses to this collision to come forward. It is understood the vehicle involved in this collision was travelling from Mount Leinster to Carlow town via Fenagh.
