Taoiseach Micheál Martin welcomes assistance of UK crews to ESB in Storm Éowyn aftermath as he takes first call with British prime minister Keir Starmer
Taoiseach Micheál Martin has spoken with UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer for the first time since being elected to the role in the Dáil last week.
Mr Martin said that following his conversation with Mr Starmer, “we are both committed to making 2025 an important and defining year for Irish-British relations as we initiate a series of annual summits to drive a programme of strategic cooperation between our two countries.”
The call earlier today discussed the impact of storm Éowyn and ongoing recovery efforts — with the Taoiseach welcoming the assistance to ESB provided by UK crews as part of a mutual association agreement between electricity companies.
Both leaders reaffirmed the importance of the Irish-British relationship.
They looked forward to the first in an agreed new series of annual Ireland-UK summits that will be hosted by Britain in March.
