Storm Éowyn: 715,000 homes without power, record-breaking gust of 183kmh recorded, ‘serious road incident’ in Donegal

‘We think we’ve escaped the worst’ – Padraig Barrett of Cork County Council

While Cork often bears the brunt of storms in Ireland, this time the county is “not bearing the worst” of Storm Éowyn. 

While speaking to RTÉ Radio One’s Morning Ireland, director of services with Cork County Council, Padraig Barrett, described Storm Éowyn as a “significant event”. 

“Not bearing the worst but it was a hugely significant event. The wind speeds from 10 o’clock or nine o’clock last night, throughout the night and continuing now, are still quite significant,” he said.

“We had gusts up to 130km/h in a number of locations around the county, particularly along the south coast, so it was a significant event,” he added. 

The Cork County Council are currently not worried about flooding in the region, Mr Barrett said.
