Bomb scare at Dundalk Courthouse

Dundalk town centre has reopened following a security alert earlier today at the courthouse, which Gardai have described “to be a hoax”.

The January sitting of Dundalk Circuit Court was due to begin this morning at the courthouse, which is located in the heart of the town at Market Square when the alert was raised before 10am.

Gardaí rushed to the scene and immediately started to evacuate the courthouse and surrounding businesses with Crowe Street cordoned off.

Traffic around the town centre was stopped as Clanbrassil Street and Market Street were closed off to traffic.

Eye witnesses stated that Garda patrol vehicles rushed to the scene from all corners and immediately evacuated staff and members of the public from the courthouse, while setting up a cordon a distance from the courthouse itself.

In a statement the Garda Press Office said “Gardaí were made aware of a security alert at a premises at Crowe Street, Dundalk, Co Louth earlier…
