Met Éireann signals end to cold snap, but warns of risk of ‘localised flooding’ due to snow melt

However, the national forecaster has warned that there is a risk of “localised flooding” due to gradual snow melt in certain areas in the country.

The forecaster has also informed that temperatures are expected to build back up to the mid-teens by the start of next week.

The National Emergency Coordination Group (NECG) met again yesterday morning, following Thursday night’s extremely low temperatures.

“The vast majority of people affected by power or water outages have now had their supply restored,” a spokesperson said.

While transport has improved, road conditions remain difficult in some parts of the country, with some transport services still affected, they added.

People in those areas are being advised to check with the relevant operator.

Keith Leonard, national director of the National Directorate for Fire and Emergency Management, said cross-government supports will be coordinated for those in parts of the country still experiencing difficulties and disruption.
