Garda file on Moriarty ‘payment to politicians’ tribunal sent to DPP 14 years after final report

An Garda Siochána has sent a file to the DPP 14 years after the findings of the Moriarty tribunal payments to politicians inquiry were revealed in 2011.
The file was sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions in recent weeks following the completion of the criminal investigation.
The DPP’s office now has to decide if any person investigated has a criminal case to answer.
The Garda Press Office confirmed the story, first reported in The Irish Times.
The Press Office said there is “no further information is currently available”.
The latest comes at a time when Fine Gael and Fianna Fáil are trying to form a coalition with the rural Independent TDs group, whose negotiations involve Independent Tipperary North TD Michael Lowry.
The Moriarty tribunal found that Deputy Lowry, a former Fine Gael minister, secured the winning of the State’s second mobile phone licence for Denis O’Brien’s company, Esat Digifone.
