Woman (70s) dies in two-car crash in Co Kilkenny

A woman in her 70s has died following a two-car collision in Slieverue in Co Kilkenny on Friday evening.

The collision occurred on the N25 at Luffany, northeast of Waterford city, at around 5.50pm. The woman, the driver of one of the cars, was fatally injured and pronounced dead at the scene. Her body was removed to the mortuary at University Hospital Waterford where a postmortem will be carried out.

The driver of the other car, a man in his 30s, and a passenger of that car, a woman in her 20s, received treatment for non-life-threatening injuries at University Hospital Waterford.

The N25 remains closed this morning between the Luffany roundabout and the Glenmore roundabout while a technical examination is carried out. Local diversions are in place.

Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses to this collision to come forward.
