Tánaiste Micheál Martin has launched the passport service awareness campaign today.

The campaign encourages the public to check their passports before making travel plans and to apply for their passports online, in plenty of time before their departure.

Passport online is the quickest, easiest and least expensive method for people at home and abroad to apply for their passports.

The service, available 24 hours a day, includes new and first-time applications for small children.

It comes as, last year, 92pc of all passport applicants used the passport online system.

The Don’t Be That Person campaign aims to encourage people to renew their passports on the Department of Foreign Affairs website.
