Snow and ice warning added to wind warnings for some counties with wintry conditions ahead of Christmas

Met Éireann this morning added a snow and ice warning for Cavan, Donegal, Monaghan, Leitrim and Louth which will take effect from 10pm Saturday until 9am on Sunday morning.

Hail, sleet and snow are possible on Sunday morning, Met Éireann said, as they warned of poor visibility, icy stretches and difficult travel conditions for affected counties.

A status yellow wind warning is currently in place for Donegal, Galway, Leitrim, Mayo and Sligo until 2pm on Sunday.

Meanwhile, Clare, Kerry and Limerick will see the same warning come into effect from 3pm today, for 24 hours.

Wave overtopping and/or spray difficult travelling conditions especially near the coast and some fallen trees are possible impacts for counties under warnings.

Today will see rain in the south and east will clear quickly, leading to a windy day with sunshine and showers, Met Éireann has said.

Winds will reach gale force along Atlantic coasts with afternoon temperatures between six to 10 degrees.
