Second man to appear in court over assault of two off-duty gardaí in Dublin

A second man has been charged in connection with the serious assault of two off-duty gardaí in Dublin last week.
The man, who is aged in his 30s, is now expected to appear before the Criminal Courts of Justice on Thursday morning.
In the early hours of the morning on Saturday, December 14, the two off-duty gardaí, both men, were on a night out when they were assaulted in an unprovoked attack.
The incident took place at the junction of Dame Street and Eustace Street in the early hours of the morning. One of the officers, aged in his 40s, remains in a critical condition in Beaumont Hospital, while the other was taken to St James’s Hospital but was later discharged.
Another man aged in his 30s was charged with assault and appeared before the courts on Tuesday. Gardaí said their investigations are ongoing.
