Woman (50s) dies in hospital days after Co Galway assault

A woman in her 50s has died in hospital days after she was assaulted in Ballinasloe, Co Galway.
The woman had been receiving medical treatment in Portiuncula University Hospital but died from her injuries on Thursday.
She was discovered with serious injuries at a domestic residence in Ballinasloe on Monday at approximately 7pm and a source had described the woman’s injuries as “extremely serious”. She was in a critical condition while receiving treatment.
A man in his 50s appeared before Ballinasloe District Court yesterday, Thursday, in relation to the assault.
The local coroner has been notified. A post mortem examination will take place in due course.
Investigating Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have any information on this incident to come forward.
