The family of Private Sean Rooney will soon be given information about his death that was previously undisclosed, the UN have confirmed.

Private Rooney, who was serving with the UN peacekeeping force in Southern Lebanon, was killed after the vehicle he was driving came under fire in December 2022.

The troops were driving near the town of Al-Aqbiya, known to be a stronghold of Hezbollah.

Private Rooney’s family had previously expressed frustration that the UN failed to respond to a request for information about the incident from the Dublin coroner.

Speaking to RTÉ Radio One’s Morning Ireland, solicitor Darren Mackin, who is acting on behalf of the family of Private Sean Rooney, said the report requested from the UN is the one…
