Temperatures are set to plummet as Met Éireann has issued a Status Yellow low temperature and ice warning for 19 counties.

The national broadcaster has temperatures will drop to -3 degrees or lower in parts, with sharp to severe frost forming with ice stretches.

The Status Yellow warning will come into affect today at 8pm until 11am on Wednesday for Connacht, Munster, Cavan, Donegal, Monaghan, Kilkenny, Laois, Longford, Offaly and Westmeath.

Meanwhile, frost will gradually clear this morning but fog may linger in some areas. Today will be dry with sunny spells where the fog clears. It will be cold with highest temperatures of 2 to 7 degrees, in light to moderate north to northeast or variable winds.

Tonight will be dry and calm with widespread sharp frost and icy stretches and areas of fog too. Lowest temperatures of -3 to 0 degrees are expected.
