Mourners were told that tragedy “altered the course of his journey 20 years ago, leaving an indelible mark on him”

Mourners openly wept as Mr Nally’s sister Maureen, said her final goodbye to her treasured brother – a man with “a natural bond with the land beneath his feet”.

Padraig Nally, who was acquitted of killing violent criminal John ‘Frog’ Ward, a trespasser at his home 20 years ago, passed away from an illness at University Hospital Galway last Friday.

Maureen told mourners that Padraig was her older brother by two years.

“And like all children we played and fought together.

“As Padraig grew up, he worked hard on his farm, improving it and he also did work for me.

“The cattle, the sheep, the dogs, hens, the geese and ducks were all very important to him.

“He looked forward to the agricultural shows in the summer and also football matches on Sundays.
