Election 2024: Most of the seats are now filled – here are the constituencies still counting
So far we have Fianna Fáil on 43 seats, Fine Gael 36, Sinn Féin 36, Independents/Others 21, Social Democrats 11, Labour 9, People Before Profit 3, Aontú 2 and the Green Party losing all but one seat.
Cavan-Monaghan – 5 seats
It took some 43 hours for a first person to be elected in this constituency, with Fine Gael’s David Maxwell filling the shoes of departing Social Protection Minister, Heather Humphreys. There are five seats to fill in total here, meaning it could be a while yet before it’s all complete.
Sinn Féin’s Matt Carthy looks assured of taking a seat, with Fianna Fáil pair Niamh Smyth and Brendan Smith also in strong positions as it stands.
Counting will resume at 1pm today, after not finishing up until 4.30am this morning.
