Social Democrats leader Holly Cairns TD and her partner Barry have welcomed a baby girl on the same day that the country goes to the polls.
Deputy Cairns, who had taken a step back during the last three weeks of campaigning while waiting for the birth of her first child updated her followers this morning.
“She’s here. We’re completely in love with her,” she wrote on Instagram, sharing a picture of her and her new baby girl in a maternity hospital in Cork.
The 35-year-old Cork native, who is contesting re-election to the Dáil in Cork South West, stepped back allowing deputy party leader Cian O’Callaghan to fill in for her at national campaign events.
Despite this, Ms Cairns was active both online and in her Cork-South West constituency as part of the Social Democrats’ campaign.
