Gardaí have now launched a murder investigation.
Gardaí report that shortly before 12:30am, gardaí and emergency services responded to reports of an assault outside a residence on Dunsink Green, Finglas. Mr Fowler was treated at the scene and subsequently pronounced deceased at Connolly Hospital, Blanchardstown.
At this stage gardaí are not classifying Ireland’s latest murder as being gangland related.
This is despite the victim being close to a number of major organised crime figures – some deceased – based in the Finglas area.
Gardaí say that no arrests have been made so far but it is understood that suspects have been nominated and they are from the locality.
It is understood the victim in the case suffered fatal stab wounds when a row broke out in a house.
