Storm Bert is in full swing, with a potential threat to life, as council crews, fire services and the ESB tackle flooded roads, downed trees and power outages nationwide.

A Status Red warning – the highest level of alert – for two counties, Cork and Galway, is still in effect with the storm bringing torrential rain and winds gusting close to 110kmh overnight.

The Status Red rainfall warning remains in place for Galway and Cork until 10am today.
