Man jailed after septic tank death threat to ex-girlfriend
Michael Galvin (34) – who has a history of mental health problems – was jailed after Cork Circuit Criminal Court heard that his ex-girlfriend was left deeply distressed by his threats and fully believed he intended to carry them out.
Galvin of Macroney, Kilworth, Co Cork had also punched the woman – and once threw a heavy Zippo lighter at her head, inflicting a deep bruise on her forehead.
Judge Helen Boyle was told that Galvin once threatened the woman that he would throw her in a septic tank so he could “shut her mouth and bury her.”
Galvin also admitted threatening to damage the woman’s car.
He had also grabbed a broom and threatened to smash the car when his ex-girlfriend attempted to leave.
Garda Cathal Power told the court the woman was subjected to the offending behaviour from January 14 to 15 2023 at the residence of the defendant.
The Garda said that when the woman raised the alarm, she ran towards uniformed officers in a “very distressed state.”
