Nepotism claims made, as HSE manager accused of sealing job for relative at Cavan hospital

His disclosures led to an internal HSE audit that criticised recruitment and governance at the EU-funded Co-operation and Working Together (CAWT).

However the audit said it was unable to verify a family relationship between a manager and the candidate.

In a protected disclosure, the whistleblower has alleged that his core complaint of a familial relationship between the manager and the candidate was not adequately investigated.

The whistleblower — who is a senior manager with the HSE — claimed that after making his initial protected disclosure in 2020, he was allegedly removed from his position in a manner that was “unprecedented” and “at odds” with governance arrangements.

According to his protected disclosure, the whistleblower raised concerns in early 2019 within the HSE about the recruitment of an individual a number of years earlier, which had only recently come to light.
