Dr Catrina Heffernan

A Kerry-based nurse and lecturer has been inducted in to the American Academy of Nursing in recognition of her impact on healthcare.

Dr Catrina Heffernan, a lecturer at Munster Technological University Kerry Campus in Tralee, received the prestigious honour at the academy’s annual conference on Saturday in Washington, DC.

She chairs the International Council of Nurses–Nurse Practitioner/Advanced Practice Nurse Network and is also is a founding member of the Ireland Africa Alliance for Non-Communicable Disease (NCD).

Dr Heffernan was selected as a recipient of a Senior Nurse Executive Leadership Coldiron Fellowship, a 13-month programme in the United States which provided her with in-depth leadership knowledge.

She was also named a senior fellow for teaching and learning with Advance HE in the UK last year. The academy said it demonstrated her commitment to professionalism in learning and teaching in higher education.
